Conduct on Six Debate

HOME I write this paqe from a personal perspective, being a station that was jammed for six or seven years, by one stations. But he had the support of half a dozen others, I write the page on what I have found and what I think. My own thoughts on the use of 110 for calling dx 110 should be used for contacting dx, then you should qsy onto another frequency. It should only be used if there is a chance of working dx. The problem starts, when who is to say when dx is about. Should you call when you think dx is about, or should others say when it is all right to call. Here in the UK we have a very small amount of stations that think they shoud say when others can call. Their answer to anybody calling is to jam 110 or send morse to stop their receive. If a station is on 110 all day, I can see the point in asking them to move. But not when they have called cq only once. In my case a station in Jersey would think it was a great crack to not only jam 110 but other frequencies. How clever he must have thought he was being. As I live 100 miles from this station, there is no way he could hear all I could hear all the time, also I could not hear all he could hear. As far as it goes, I and others should only call when he says it is all right. To justify his action he say stations he has jammed are alway on 110, I in seven years have spent a total of six minutes on 110 calling. That works out to calling five times a year. This is just one station, but there are others who act in this way. I you want someone to qsy then ask them to qsy, but have a reason for asking. Please do not tell other they cannot call for dx, then use 110 as if it is a private frequency. As half a dozon stations do at the moment.
I can say without dobt that most arguments are caused or kept going by double standards or hypocricy and the root of this is greed. There is nothing wrong with wanting to work dx, or even being first. But if this means stopping other from useing their radio's, trying to spoil the hobby for them, this then has got to be wrong. The actions above are not within the rules of the hobby or spirit of the hobby If we were all to stick to the bandplan, YES the same rules for everybody these problems would not happen.
I would like a pound for every time I have heard a station saying to someone calling for dx, I could hear dx and by you calling I missed. Please be assured if there was dx they would be calling, NOT listening. Or are they saying they have more right to work dx than you. I can remember about eight years ago, I called and worked dx, only to find out that as I was the only one to work it, that I should have let better known stations go first. they did not work it because of the lack of propagation, it was because I had worked it. Yes in their minds they should have gone first. The answer to this is, stop blameing others, when you do not make a qso, Do not think others have to let you go first.
I do have a letter from the station in Jersey, saying if I did not do as he said and operate as he wanted me to, he would stop me working on six. Six years later I am still on six, the only rules I work to are the official rules and the official bandplan. I would like to think I work every station within the spirit of the hobby.

I would like to think that all the above, problems of bad canduct could have been avoided with good maners, but because of greed, stations thinking they are more important than the hobby, that rules are only for the other stations. If some cannot get their own way they will bully and threaten the there is no answer. Alas the only answer to the above bad conduct, is to make a stand. When ever we turn our radios on we should be thinking of other users, not jamming, calling over stations in a pill up, Do not stop other working dx, in plain words listen first. Most of all remember like you others want the same out of the hobby as you.
