Fashion Page

http://www.charm.net/~jakec/
With so many fashion magazines swamping the newstands, it's not surprising that they're starting to make an appearance here. They're not entirely suited to the medium, though. Being image driven slows down page delivery and, fashion being fashion, it's out of date immediately. This site favours a more textual approach, a little like hearing about it on the radio.

FashionLive

Yves Saint Laurent was the first designer to present his haute couture collection (Fall/Winter 96/97) on the Internet. On the 10th of July, as Claudia Schieffer and her supermodel mates ambled seductively down the catwalk, the whole thing was broadcast live over the Internet in an inch square box. You can watch replays of the catwalk show or see the whole collection as a sequence of slides (the latter is a much better option, as the images are bigger and you can actually see the gorgeous clothes). Yves history and interviews with the great man's pals, such as Helmut Newton and Catherine Deneuve, are also featured. But my favourite section has to be the backstage photos of the models - it makes me feel much better to see Linda Evangalista without make-up. Give this one a go it's well written and tastefully designed.

Fashion Internet

http://www.finy.com/
Bursting with articles on things like the clueless guy's guide to buying a suit and three decades of Dr Martens, Fashion Internet encompasses every conceivable consumer wish-list of men's and womenswear wants from a fashion magazine. The writing is perky and there is a lot of it, but there are also some great illustrations, as well as some real clutz type cartoon pictures accompanying the articles. Films are reviewed in terms of style, wardrobe and the costume designer and there's a gossipy 'who's been seen out and about' section called Dish. In fact, in its entirety FI is a little overwhelming. What with fashion moving so fast and being about the next big thing, less is sometimes more or else there's too much to take in.

f.uk

http://www.widemedia.com/fashionuk/fuk.html
You may think you need another fashion magazine like you need a hole in the head Ü you're probably right. Fashion UK is a sprawling monster of feature material, 'hot' fashion tips, upcoming events, exhibitions and health and beauty hints, as well as a contact book for the UK fashion industry. This last section is, in some senses, the most interesting because it's information you rarely get elsewhere. Otherwise, with these ezine-type things it's often best to look for yourself, to get a feel for the attitude and the approach and to see if it's really you! Suits you, sir! Suits you!

Express

http://express.style.com/
In the States, apparently, Express is a brand of chic women's sportswear, jeans and accessories with the accent on casual but smart European daywear and effortless French style. Consequently, the stylish environment of Express is littered with francophilian phrases and its reference points are Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Onassis and Grace Kelly. Funnily enough, this doesn't feel like a commercial enterprise (no clumsy logos or inappropriate product placement). Instead it's a rarified atmosphere in which genteel browsers are encouraged to be courteous and treat others with respect, like the kind of designer salon that won't see you without an appointment. Visitors are asked to become members and take advantage of several mailing lists. In terms of content, expect quality rather than quantity Ü new looks and must-haves are classily presented alongside strong graphics and considered prose. This is an elite service for women who stopped shopping at Miss Selfridge years ago.

Armani Exchange

http://armaniexchange.com/
Armani Exchange offers Armani clothes for those without bulging designer wallets. The site boasts a virtual runway - a well photographed picture catalogue of the collection complete with price tags. There's heaps of detail on the 'master of beige' himself. Inspired by the luscious clothes? You can search a database to find your closest Armani store, s'funny I couldn't find one in Leytonstone!

Elle

http://www.ellemag.com/member/
Fashion junkies in the Clueless mould are gonna love these suitably stylish utterances from American Elle Ü they virtually sashay off the page. Unfortunately, those people who have already contributed to the Elletalk online forum section are not quite as sophisticated as their editorial counterparts - half of them can't tell Armani from Versace, let alone Kors from Klein. Shame on you girlfriend Ü as if!

N-Touch

Ultimately fashion mags are about pictures. There are some mildly diverting articles on body painting, body piercing, fitness and cosmetic surgery here but it's hard not to yearn for the glossy pages of Vogue.
