From april 18th I will be on the Maldive Island for two weeks. My call will be 8Q7QQ and I will monitor 50.110 very carefully. Who knows ....

I have just been informed that a special permission has been given by the Director of Frequencies for ROARS to use 50mHz for a DXpedition to the Dimaniyat Islands off the Northern Coast of Oman. I hope to get better details later but I intend to be on the DXpedition (IOTA) which is intended on the last week of March 1998 and will probably use the callsign A43DI as was used previously when we activated in 1985. The islands are lots of rocky/coral islets and are unihabited except for wildlife and birds, it is a wildlife sanctuary so permission is always difficult, and could cause the whole thing to be called off.
I will have a IC 706 and a 5 el yagi and set up a beacon probably on 50.100 mHz when the station is not operating. I do not think there will be much chance of 'E' propagation but you never know. Progress is getting a little better for the release of the 6m band and this is the catalyst to speed up the process. 73 de Tony Selmes A45ZN
Michael OX3LG / OZ2ELA will travelling to Greenland 18th March to the 6th April and will be active on 6m from GP60 and GP45 and will join the CQWW WPX HF contest from from GP45. 73 Michael Riis Jenson
OD5 EXPEDITION
I plan to activate the OD5 country during June 1998 (1 full month), in KM73VW (1800 m asl, near the sea) the call could be OD5RAK, 6m = 100 W, 5 el, 2m = 80 W, 8 el, HF= 100 W, long wire especialy for Es (6 and 2m). 73, Jean-Pierre, F6FLV.
HR6 EXPEDITION
A group from the Florida Contest Club will operate from Roatan Island,HR6, March 3 to March 10, 1998. The Main event: ARRL DX SSB contest. Contest call: HR6/W4OVU. The operators are: Bruce Phegley, HR6/W4OVU QSL via W4OVU Julio Ripoll, HR6/WD4JNS QSL via WD4JNS Operating bands & modes: 80 meters to 6 meters, CW, RTTY, Phone, RS12 satellite......... 73 Julio Ripoll, Architect, WD4JNS (de GJ4ICD)
A multinational group of DXpeditioners, primarily members of the UK's CDXC (Chiltern DX Club), the UK DX Foundation, will operate from Layang Layang Island in the Spratlys in February 1998. The operation will run from 12th to 24th February 1998, allowing two full weekends on the island and is timed to take place soon after the island re-opens to visitors following the typhoon season, in order to maximise the opportunities for good LF propagation. It is also hoped that sunspot numbers will by then have started to increase, and that the expedition will enjoy favourable HFpropagation.
The team is expected to include G3NUG G3OZF G3SED G3WGV G3XTT G4JVG G0OPB K5VT VK2BEX 9M2OM(G3NOM) and 9M6SU. It is planned to keep four stations on the air round the clock, to maximise band openings. All HF bands will be activated, on SSB, CW and RTTY, and the group will also have equipment for 6 metres. The team will use a wide selection of monoband and multiband antennas including four-square arrays for both 40 and 80 metres. The callsign will be 9M0C.
A Web page is available at http://members.aol.com/spratly98 with up-to-the-minute expedition news. Pilot stations in Europe (G3ZAY), the US (N1DG) and Japan (to be announced) will act as an interface to the team, in line with the recent practice of other major expeditions. Phil Whitchurch G3SWH will be QSL manager, and QSLs will be available through the bureau or direct. Phil's address is 21 Dickensons Grove, Congresbury, Bristol, BS19 5HQ, England. Bureau cards will also be answered 100%.
If you wish to be e-mailed directly with information as it becomes available, send a
message to the expedition's publicity officer Don Field G3XTT at g3xtt@lineone.net
ANGOLA QRV ON SIX!
Dias, CT4KO, will be active as D2AI from Luanda from now until at least September, 1998. He is using a Yaesu FT-920 and 50MHz Beam.
I had avery interesting letter from a pal of mine today. Paul, G7SLP,KD5CRJ who is returning to work in Dhahran, Suadi Arabia in the very near future.
Paul is taking with him an FT920, and will be putting up antenna's for 17 and 6 Metres. He plans to use the 920 from the club station, HZ1AB.
Paul says that HZ1AB WILL BE ACTIVE ON 6 METRES THROUGHOUT THE SPORADIC E SEASON 1998 !!
More news as I get it. 73 de Roger, G4HBA.
Per, LA7DFA, will once again be active from Jan Mayen as JX7DFA from 1 February through October. He plans to be on 6 through 160 meters CW, SSB and digital. He will be running a TS-450 and an IC-2KL amplifier. QSL via LA7DFA.
5R8EE ON SIX To day January 24, I had a contact on 28 Mhz with 5R8EE and he told me to be qrv on the Magic Band with a 5 el. yagi and 300 watt. Good luck and 73's de I0CUT, Ugo (Six Italia Infonews by ik0fta)
IVE RECEIVED MY 3C5 LICENSE AT LAST!! After several months, 20 visits to the authorities and $450. Look for 3C1I on 6 m from now on. Im living in Malabo in Equatorial Guinea (JJ43JR) and will be operating mainly 6 and 10m. I have local TV on 48.250 video from 1500 to 2300Z most days, so I cannot operate in this time period. Look for a beacon going most of the time when Im not on the air, otherwise I will be on 50.110. The 6m equipment is TS680S and 100 watts into a 4 el quad at 30 ft with a good takeoff. 10m seems to be open all afternoon and most evenings to ZS so Ill certainly be looking south very closely on 6m. I can be reached in the office weekdays from 0700-1600 Z at either OAISAACH@DAL.MOBIL.COM or on a direct line through Dallas on (214)905.4805. I have not figured out QSLs yet but they can come to me direct for the moment : Alan Isaachsen, PO Box 650232, Dallas, TX 75248, USA. Alan Isaachsen, 3C5I (KB2WF) oaisaach@dal.mobil.com
Graham Dawes, M0AEP (UKSMG #1374) will be QRV from County Kerry, Ireland from the 18th
July to 1st August 1998. The Grid locator of his QTH on the Kenmare River is IO41XS, very
rare on 6m. Equipment will be 10 watts pep to an HB9CV antenna, 7 metres agl. Graham has
recived a permit to operate as EI/M0AEP from the Irish authorities, to use 50.000MHz to
50.500MHz with only horizontal polarisation and 20dbW erp. He has to be vigilant to avoid
interference to cable TV. Activity will be mainly SSB and slow CW (operators note).
Operation will be limited by holiday commitments, he will have HF with him but no spot
frequencies have been given. QSL to Graham Dawes, M0AEP, 50 Highfield Road, North
Thoresby, Grimsby, N E Lincolnshire, DN36 5RT, England.
